Everything you need to know
What's the catch? Is a PPA really $0 down?
Yes, it's really $0 down. No deposit, no purchase, no loan. You pay nothing to get started. Here's how it works: PowerGuard owns the solar system on your roof and sells you the electricity it produces at a flat monthly rate lower than what your utility currently charges. You're not buying equipment, taking on debt, or financing anything. Your rates and any annual adjustments are spelled out clearly in your agreement before you sign. The only real commitment is the contract term, laid out plainly in your agreement. No hidden fees, no balloon payments, no fine print. We walk through every line with you before anything is finalized. The last thing we want is a customer who feels surprised six months in.
What happens if I sell my home?
The agreement transfers to the new owner. If you sell within the first six years, the buyer takes over the agreement as-is. After six years, you have an additional option: purchase the system outright at fair market value and sell it as part of the home. Either way, PowerGuard handles the transfer process, the new buyer steps into your agreement, and your savings continue uninterrupted. No removal, no penalty, no disruption to the sale.
What's covered if something breaks?
PowerGuard covers everything for the full term: parts, labor, and workmanship. If any component of the system breaks, including the battery, we repair or replace it at no cost to you. If there is an issue with the original installation, we fix that too. We also monitor your system continuously and send you an annual production statement so you always know exactly how your system is performing. The only exclusions are damage caused by the homeowner or by someone unrelated to PowerGuard.
How much will I actually save?
Your savings depend on your current utility rate and usage. What the agreement locks in is a rate per kWh that is lower than what your utility charges today, and while your utility rate will likely keep climbing, your PowerGuard rate is set and outlined clearly in your agreement from day one. Additionally, if your system ever produces less than 90% of its estimated annual output (outside of major events outside our control), PowerGuard pays you the difference. Your savings are not just a promise. They are backed by a performance guarantee in writing.
What happens at the end of the agreement?
At the end of your term you have three options. You can purchase the system at fair market value and own it outright. You can renew the agreement for additional terms at a new rate, set in advance and clearly explained when we contact you. Or you can have PowerGuard remove the entire system at no cost to you, with your property returned to its original condition. Nothing happens automatically without your input. We contact you before the term ends and walk through all three options together.
What batteries does PowerGuard use?
We use lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO₄), widely considered the safest and most durable lithium chemistry available for home use. Compared to the older NMC chemistries some competitors still install, LiFePO₄ runs cooler, lasts longer (6,000+ charge cycles vs. roughly 1,500 to 2,000 for NMC), and has a significantly higher thermal threshold before any safety concern. For a battery that's going to live in your garage or on the side of your house for 15+ years, that matters.
Will PowerGuard work with my existing utility and electrical setup?
In nearly all cases, yes. Our systems are designed to interconnect with standard residential utility service, and we handle the entire interconnection application and approval process with your utility as part of installation. If there's any incompatibility specific to your home (a service panel that needs upgrading, for example), we'll flag it during your site assessment, before you sign anything.
Is your equipment certified?
Yes. Our battery systems carry the major safety certifications required for residential installation in the U.S., including UL 1973 (stationary battery safety) and UL 9540A (fire propagation testing). Our solar equipment carries the certifications required by every state we operate in. We can share specific certification documentation on request.
What is the Texas Grid Rewards / VPP program?
When the Texas grid is stressed during peak demand, PowerGuard can briefly send a portion of your stored battery energy to the grid through ERCOT's demand response programs. You earn bill credits for every dispatch event. Your home is never left without power. We set minimum battery reserve thresholds before any dispatch occurs, so your essentials stay covered.
